| Opens With... Fx Audio Editor supports the majority of popular, open source, sound formats. Since some software producers use proprietary file extensions the file extension of a source file may not reflect the actual audio format. To work around this, Fx Audio Editor will try to open any file that you choose, regardless of the file extension. If you choose a file that cannot be edited with Fx Audio Editor but that can be opened with another program you will be presented with the option of trying to play the file while recording it in Fx Audio Editor. 
If you choose yes to the above dialogue a new dialogue similar to the one below will open. 
The default player (or program) associated with the Windows MIME type file extension will be displayed and you will also be given the option to open the file with another application. Please keep in mind that if the file you selected is not a valid sound file the default application displayed will not be an audio player. In such cases you should close the dialogue with the Cancel button. It is also important to note that the "Opens with..." dialogue began because Fx Audio Editor was unable to open the file. This could mean that the file is corrupt, copy protected, licensed or unusable. In some cases the source file type will open and does not have any associated executable file to open it. 
This does not necessarily mean that the file is not a perfectly valid and complete sound file. For example, you will not be able to play Real Media audio files if you do not have the Real Media Player installed on your computer. All tags and wrapper information will be lost by this process. See Digital Audio Formats for more information about file and MIME types. If the file cannot be opened because it is licensed or copy protected, recording to another file may be illegal. Although you may add an Open With association between audio files to use Fx Audio Editor as your primary audio player, it is not recommended. |
